As with everybody else there are things you can do to keep your body in good condition. For example, eating healthily, taking regular exercise and keeping your weight at a healthy level may help you cope better with some of the symptoms of MS. If you find that stress brings on your symptoms, then learning to relax, say by taking yoga classes or getting rid of some of the stresses in your life, may also be important.
Although there has been much research into special diets and nutritional supplements for people with MS, none of it has shown that what you eat can help to reduce the symptoms of MS (ref nd5). However, it makes sense to eat a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables to keep your body in peak condition.
Exercise can be especially beneficial for people with MS. As well as maintaining muscle strength, exercise can help you relax, help control your weight and combat fatigue. These are some things you have control over, so watching what you eat and exercising can help you feel better in general.
MS affects about three times as many women as men.
